The Barcelona City Council will install natural grass at the Europa and Sant Andreu stadium

Europa and Sant Andreu will not share a stadium next season in Primera Federación. Can Dragó was not the ideal solution. The Barcelona City Council has found a solution and will install natural grass in the municipal stadiums of Narcís Sala and Nou Sardenya, with the aim of adapting to the regulations that prevent playing in the third category of Spanish football on artificial turf fields.

The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, announced this Monday the decision adopted to the president of Europa, Hèctor Ibar, and the vice-president of Sant Andreu, Tomeu Ferran, in a meeting where they celebrated the agreement that puts an end to the conflict they faced after the promotion of the quadribarrats to Primera RFEF.

The derby will be played at Narcís Sala and Nou Sardenya

In this way, both teams will play their home matches next season, having alternative fields to ensure training for youth, women’s, and inclusive football teams. UE Sant Andreu will be able to train at the AISS, Bon Pastor, and Baró de Viver fields. In the case of CE Europa, in addition to the l’Àliga field, they will also have new training spaces in Mundet.

Regarding the installation of natural grass at Nou Sardenya and Narcís Sala, the City Council is in contact with both teams for its adaptation. “Work has been done to ensure that all youth sports teams of both clubs have alternative fields in the city before starting the actions for the installation of natural grass in the stadiums,” the council clarified in a statement.

Sant Andreu has provided more details on the schedule for the grass installation, once the issue of fields for youth football has been resolved. “The City Council will process the tender urgently so that it is ready as soon as possible, to try to start the league at Narcís Sala. The mayor has also assured that the lighting will be resolved to reach the 600 luxes required by RFEF regulations,” he clarified in another statement, in which he thanked Collboni and the Sports Councilor, David Escudé, for their “speed” and “personal involvement.”

In the case of Europa, which is already playing in Primera RFEF this season (currently in the promotion playoff zone) and has been playing home games at Can Dragó for months, they will be able to return to Nou Sardenya, expressing their happiness after the decision. “As a club of its members, we needed a solution that would guarantee the sporting, social, and economic viability of the project, and today we can say with pride and emotion: we are coming home,” concluded the ‘escapulat’ team.
