Deaths attributable to high temperatures have reached 114 in the first twelve days of July in the Valencian Community, of which 104 occurred last week, during which a heat wave with temperatures above 45 degrees was recorded.
According to estimates from the Daily Mortality Monitoring System (MoMo) of the Carlos III Health Institute, the vast majority of the deceased were over 65 years old.
By provinces, 60 of the deaths occurred in Alicante, 37 in Valencia, and the remaining 16 in the province of Castellón, according to MoMo.
The deadliest week was week 28, between July 6 and 12, during which a heat wave occurred, as the number of deaths attributable to high temperatures amounts to 104; while the rest died in the previous week (between June 29 and July 5).
By days, those with the most deaths were July 10, with 22; followed by July 9 with 20 deaths; July 11 with 19; July 12 with 17 deaths; July 8 with 14; and July 7 with 8 deaths. The rest of the deaths occurred between July 1 and 6.

Compared to the same period last year, deaths have increased by 930%, as between July 1 and 12, 2025, deaths attributable to high temperatures were 10, according to MoMo estimates. In the same period of 2024, deaths were 14.
The figures published daily by the MoMo system are not definitive, as it continuously recalculates estimates by incorporating deaths that may have been reported late, so the figures are updated permanently and are not considered definitive and consolidated until several weeks have passed.
The MoMo system estimates excess deaths by comparing observed deaths with expected deaths in a specific territory and period, and allows detecting excess mortality from all causes and therefore also estimating deaths attributable to episodes of extreme temperatures, such as heat or cold, although it does not determine individual causes of death, but patterns associated with situations such as heat waves, intense cold, or other periods of excess mortality.
