In addition to about 500 firefighters, fire-fighting planes and helicopters are being used for the first time in the Île-de-France region (the capital region). About 900 residents have had to be evacuated.

The city of Fontainebleau, in the Seine-et-Marne department, houses the famous palace of the same name, a World Heritage site since 1981, surrounded by gardens and forests (about 25,000 wooded hectares). Epicenter of national history, Napoleon I, after abdicating as emperor in April 1814, said goodbye to the soldiers of his praetorian guard on the palace staircase before departing into exile on the island of Elba. Since that day, the honor courtyard in front of the staircase has been called “the courtyard of farewells.”
The Fontainebleau forest, which has rock formations and uneven terrain, is a paradise for hiking and climbing enthusiasts.
