The emergency management insists that there is no imminent danger from the fire, so the population is asked to remain calm and carry out an orderly evacuation. It is expected that the affected neighbors, between 300 and 400 people, will be able to return to their homes towards the end of the afternoon or at dusk if conditions are favorable.

The fire was declared on Sunday afternoon and the strong wind has quickly driven it

“Take documentation, medications, and pets. Leave the house and windows closed and the plot open,” explains Civil Protection in a tweet. “If you do not have a vehicle, the operatives will indicate transportation,” they point out.

The fire was declared on Sunday afternoon in the Vall d’Infern, in Aiguamúrcia, and quickly moved towards Querol and Pontons late in the afternoon, driven by “marinada” wind gusts of up to 28 km/h, temperatures of 32ºC, and a relative humidity of 30%. According to the latest provisional data from the Rural Agents, the fire has already burned about 114 hectares, of which 97% corresponds to forested wooded area.

More than 70 units and 200 personnel from the Bombers de la Generalitat, with the support of the Forest Defense Groups (ADF) and aerial resources from the Ministry, have worked intensively throughout the night. The tasks have focused on stabilizing the last third of the left and right flanks, which remained active in an area described by the Bombers commanders as “bad terrain, with a lot of forest mass and slow to work on.”

The perimeter protection strips previously made by the local councils in the area are helping to contain the advance of the flames. Meanwhile, the Rural Agents keep all hypotheses about the causes of the fire’s origin open. As a road safety measure, traffic on the T-244 road remains completely restricted between Aiguamúrcia and Querol.
