“I am not here to ask for favors, nor to give them away.” This is how the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, positioned himself this morning at the 41st Annual Meeting of the Cercle d’Economia following yesterday’s defense of a majority with Junts and PNV to force the calling of elections.

Feijóo has defended the alternative majority in the Congress and the Senate where – without naming it – they have voted with Junts in the same direction on different laws. The president of the PP has argued that “Catalonia should no longer aspire to achieve things through collision or coercion, but through conviction.”
The president of the Cercle d’Economia, Teresa Garcia-Milà, began Feijóo’s presentation by referring to the “irregularities” of political parties revealed in recent weeks. “We want to express our deep concern,” said Garcia-Milà, before adding that “Spain needs to continue strengthening its mechanisms of control, transparency, and accountability.” She also took the opportunity to call for the need to implement a new financing system.

Before giving the conference, the president of the PP held a working lunch at the Torre Melina hotel with members of the Cercle board and some businessmen such as Antoni Brufau (Repsol), José Crehueras (Planeta), and Pau Relat (Mat Holding and Fira de Barcelona). At the meeting, he made a diagnosis of the situation, sources present at the private meeting explained.
