Alberto Núñez Feijóo is in Barcelona this Tuesday, where he will speak to Catalan entrepreneurs at the Cercle d’Economia sessions at a time of maximum political pressure for Junts to support an instrumental motion of no confidence to accelerate the call for elections. According to sources from Feijóo’s team, the PP leader will deliver a “brave” speech during the dialogue he will hold with economist Teresa García-Milà. The meeting in Barcelona takes place 24 hours after Feijóo himself expressed being “optimistic” about the possibility of a government change through the vote of no confidence because “184 deputies” in Congress “are demanding early and immediate elections.” “If those who say it are consistent and do it, we can find a solution in a short time,” he added yesterday.

In this way, Feijóo in an interview on Telecinco, referred yesterday to PP (137), Vox (33), Junts (7), PNV (5), Coalición Canaria (1) and UPN (1). All of them demand elections from Pedro Sánchez, although Junts and PNV do not consider voting alongside Vox. To dismantle these reservations, Feijóo himself pointed out that support for the motion of no confidence does not translate into backing Vox. “We do not need Vox in any government to call elections. To form a government to activate the electoral call, no other party than the PP is necessary,” said the popular leader, who also stated that after the elections, Spaniards “will decide what they want.” At this point, he again showed his willingness to govern alone because the political, economic, and social situation Spain is going through needs a “reformist government that knows how to govern with people who have governed.”
In fact, on this idea he will expand this Tuesday at the 41st annual meeting of the Cercle d’Economia, a space that the popular party defines as one “of the main forums for economic and business reflection” in Spain. Sources close to the PP indicate that Feijóo “will not dodge any question” and will express his aspiration to take the lead of a government that “faces the challenges of the Catalans out of commitment and not convenience.” “If the Catalans and the rest of Spaniards want more housing, more doctors, less irregular immigration, and fewer taxes, they have Feijóo and the PP project at their disposal,” summarize the popular leader’s team, who recall that there is currently a parliamentary majority in Congress to face some of these challenges. They point out that there have been PP initiatives that have gathered more “yes” than “no” votes and specify that they have had Junts’ support on issues such as housing – to improve access or combat “squatting” –, immigration, tax cuts, improvements for the medical community, or the continuation of nuclear power plants. Feijóo will commit to implementing these and other measures, which he cannot carry out now due to the PSOE and Sumar blockade in Congress.
“To activate the electoral call, no other party than the PP is necessary,” says Feijóo
For the Catalan entrepreneurs, Feijóo will emphasize today “that he does not want Catalonia to always be a piece subordinated to the temporary interests of Moncloa,” but will defend “vehemently” that Catalonia “should no longer aspire to achieve things either by collision or coercion, but by conviction,” referring to the concessions made in recent years by the PSOE to the pro-independence parties in exchange for Sánchez’s investiture.

“I offer decency and elections,” Feijóo stated yesterday, referring to the need to “clean up the institutions” due to corruption cases in Sánchez’s government and his commitment to call elections immediately, distancing himself from what Sánchez did in 2018, who delayed more than eight months before calling elections after the motion of no confidence.
Feijóo’s intervention will be early, but he will spend the whole day in Barcelona with private working meetings.
