The norovirus outbreak forced the confinement of the 1,750 people traveling on the cruise, which has already left the French town of Bordeaux. It was scheduled to stop in Ferrol, but it was canceled, and it will finally dock in A Coruña at 10:30 a.m.

The ship arrives with 30 active cases of gastroenteritis and it will be upon arrival at the port that it will be determined whether the passengers can disembark, as was already done in Bordeaux.

Entry authorized by Maritime Captaincy

Sources from the Government Delegation explain that a coordination meeting was held with the Port Authority of A Coruña, the City Council of A Coruña, the Xunta de Galicia, Maritime Captaincy, the State Security Forces and Corps, the ship’s agent, and the Cruise Terminal.

They add that entry into Spanish waters is authorized by the Maritime Captaincy and the Port Authority is the one that authorized the docking.

The External Health services, dependent on the Government, will board the ship for their routine inspection and situation analysis, after which they will determine if disembarkation is possible according to safety and public health protocols.

At 8 p.m. the ship will continue to Gijón, as planned, to later continue towards Bilbao.

“The situation is being monitored”

The Government Delegation and other administrations convey “a message of calm, emphasizing that the situation is being monitored and that all measures contemplated to guarantee the safety of both passengers and port personnel and the population are being applied.”

“The evolution of the situation will continue to be evaluated and coordination between administrations maintained,” the same sources conclude.
